GUWAHATI: Fresh floods following incessant rains in the region have claimed the second life with the latest casualty reported from Halem in Biswanath district. With this, this year's flood toll rose to 120 in the State.

As on Tuesday, 2,78,979 people of 458 villages in 12 districts have been affected. Altogether 27, 505. 30 hectares of standing crops have been damaged during the last 24 hours, stated the daily bulletin of ASDMA (Assam State Disaster Management Authority).

The affected districts are Dhemaji, Biswanath, Kamrup, Morigaon, Hojai, Nagaon, Golaghat, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia and West Karbi Anglong.

While the Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger mark at Neamatighat in Jorhat, Tezpur, and Guwahati; the Jia Bharali is flowing above the danger level at NT Road Crossing in Sonitpur district and the Kopili at Dharamtul and Kampur in Nagaon district.

A total of 117 persons are taking shelter at two relief camps in Raha of Nagaon district.

Erosion has been reported from Biswanath and Hojai districts.
