GUWAHATI: The floods have started receding in the state today, but the death toll has risen to nine with the death of a person in the Sivasagar district.

Though the lack of rainfall in the past few days has led to the water level falling, the deluge has still affected 63,000 people in 272 villages in 14 districts. Around 522 inmates are taking shelter in 51 relief camps in the state. Most of the affected people who took shelter in relief camps have returned to their homes. Barring the Brahmaputra, the other major rivers in the state are flowing below their danger levels.

The number of district-wise affected villages is 64 in Sivasagar, 58 in Morigaon, 37 in Dhemaji, 33 in Golaghat, and 29 in Kamrup.

Most of the roads are damaged in Sivasagar and Nalbari, besides their submergence. Massive erosion has affected the Chirang district. A portion of the Dhansiri Irrigation Project was damaged by the floods.
