GUWAHATI: Assam will be allocated Rs 171.60 crore under the newly launched 'State Disaster Mitigation Fund' (SDMF) under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) for fiscal 2020-'21.
Presently, the Assam government is awaiting the detailed guidelines on SDMF from the Centre.
In the case of Assam, the fund will be used exclusively for the repair and restoration of roads and embankments damaged particularly during the floods and storms. This new concept is besides the SDRF (State Disaster Response Fund) under which the MHA releases funds for disaster mitigation purposes. The decision has been taken to streamline the process of disaster management at the State level.
