GUWAHATI: The Central government has released Rs 44 crore for repair and restoration of various infrastructures during floods in Assam during 2020. This amount has been released under NDRF (National Disaster Response Fund). It is a cent percent Central government allocation.

To carry out the restoration works, the Assam government had earlier sought financial assistance of Rs 2,642.99 crore from the Central government under SDRF/NDRF. In this regard, the then State Chief Secretary also submitted the State government's memorandum – 'Assam Floods-2020' to the Secretary of MHA (Ministry of Home Affairs).

Mentionably, repair and restoration works of such infrastructures damaged due to disasters are usually undertaken under the SDRF (State Disaster Response Fund). The Centre bears 90 per cent of the released fund amount while the State government has to bear the remaining 10 per cent. The SDRF allocation for Assam was Rs 858 crore in last fiscal (2020-2021).
