GUWAHATI: Barring few activities the Assam Government has decided to lift most of the lockdown restrictions from August 16 with an aim to revive the economy. The restrictions of one side of the streets in Guwahati will also be lifted.

An order issued by the State Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna on Thursday stated all permitted activities will be allowed between 5 am to 9 pm from Monday to Friday. The order will come into force from 5 am on August 16 and remain valid till 9.30 pm of August 31. Weekend lockdown on Saturdays and Sundays will remain during this period. The timing of the night curfew will be in between 9.30 pm and 5 am. The order as stated was issued after after due consideration of the COVID-19 situation in the State. Inter district movement of passenger vehicles and people will be allowed between Monday & Friday. Inter-district movement of vehicles is allowed with 50 per cent capacity.

Plying of city buses will be allowed subject to maintenance of all COVID-19 protocols, social distancing norms and with 50 per cent capacity. Other modes of public transport will also operate with the same protocols as with city buses.

During this period cinema halls, swimming pools, entertainment parks, theatres, auditoriums, assembly halls and similar other places of gathering will remain closed.

Social, political, sports, entertainment, academic, religious functions and other large congregations more than 50 persons will remain prohibited. No activities will be allowed in Containment Zones and entry and exit from such zones are strictly prohibited. Persons above 65 years of age and children below the age of 10 are advised to stay indoors except for unavoidable health conditions. Wearing of masks in public places will be compulsory and violation will attract a fine of Rs 1,000 for the first offence.
