Assam Government declares holiday list for the year 2024

GUWAHATI: The State Government today published its holiday list for the year 2024 for its offices and all Revenue and Magisterial Courts in the state. In this regard, the General Administration Department (GAD) issued an official notification after approval from the Cabinet.

According to the holiday list, the total number of government holidays will be 36 in 2024. Apart from these, the list has two half-holidays and 30 restricted holidays. Regarding the restricted holidays, the notification says that each government employee may avail of two of the 30 notified restricted holidays during the year.

According to the list, the holidays are: January 15 and 16 for the Magh Bihu and Tusu Puja; January 23 for Gwthar Bathou San/Netaji's birthday; January 26 for Republic Day; January 31 for Me-Dam-Me-Phi; February 24 for Bir Chilaray Divas; March 25 for Dol Yatra; March 29 for Good Friday; April 11 for Id-Ul-Fitr; April 13, 14, and 15 for Bohag Bihu; April 20 for Sati Sadhini Divas; May 1 for May Day; May 8 for the Tithi of Damodar Deva; May 23 for Buddha Purnima; May 24 for the Janmotsav of Sri Sri Madhabdev; June 17 for Id-Ul-Juha; August 15 for Independence Day; August 23 for the Tirubhav Tithi of Sri Sri Madhabdev; August 26 for Janmastomi; September 4 for the Tirobhav Tithi of Srimanta Sankandev; September 14 for Karam Puja; October 2 for the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi; October 10, 11, and 12 for Durga Puja; October 13 for Vijaya Dashomi/Janmotsav of Sri Sri Sankardev; October 17 for Kati Bihu; October 31 for Kali Puja and Diwali; November 3 for Bhatri Dwitiya; November 7 for Chath Puja; November 15 for Guru Nanak's birthday; November 24 for Lachit Divas; December 2 for Asom Divas (Su-Ka-Pha Divas); and December 25 for Christmas Day.

Meanwhile, the notification has mentioned two half-holidays: July 13 for Muharram and October for Lakshmi Puja. Government offices and all revenue and magisterial courts in the state will remain open until 1 p.m. on these two days.

The notification has further said that all second and fourth Saturdays of the month will be holidays, and all other Saturdays will be full working days.

The notification has allowed the district commissioners to declare any one day that may be of local significance as a local holiday, barring the Kamrup (M) district. With approval from the Chief Minister, the notification has authorized the GAD to declare two local holidays for the Kamrup (M) district and two additional holidays.
