GUWAHATI: The crucial exercise of simultaneous claims & hearings of over one lakh people whose names appeared in the recent additional exclusion list to draft NRC, concluded on Friday even as Dispur has started making strategies to effectively tackle any untoward incident after publication of the final NRC on July 31.

Names of 1,02,462 persons, who were found ineligible to be included in the final NRC, have been included in the additional exclusion list to draft NRC. The names of these persons were, however, included in the complete draft NRC published last year.

On the other hand, people whose names were not included in the complete draft NRC, have contacted the NRC authorities with a plea to conduct hearings of their claims to be included in the final NRC. These persons have applied for hearing after the NRC authorities gave an appeal in case anyone did not receive hearing notices during the recently concluded exercise.

Hearings of such persons will be concluded next week. After completing this hearing exercise, NRC authorities will cease their public correspondence and engage themselves to complete the preparation for publication of the final NRC on July 31, the deadline fixed by the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, the Centre and the State Government have started making strategies to prevent law & order and any other untoward incident after publication of the final NRC. The Ministry of Home Affairs has already issued a slew of instructions to Dispur to maintain law and order post-July 31.

Dispur has divided the entire State into six zones to adopt district-wise strategies. The strategies will be chalked out during meetings of six zones in the presence of officials of Home & Political department and the Assam Police. The first such meeting was held in Tezpur on Friday to discuss strategies for Sonitpur, Biswanath, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur & Udalguri. Additional Chief Secretary (Home & Political department) Kumar Sanjay Krishna, Additional DG (Law & Order) Mukesh Agarwal and IGP (SB) Hiren Chandra Nath attended the meeting. The Nagaon zone meeting will be held on July 13 followed by Jorhat zone meeting on July 16, Silchar zone on July 18, Bongaigaon on July 21 and Guwahati zone on July 23.
