"To speed up the vaccination drive, we are talking with the Central government for the supply of Covid vaccine doses. We will get a clear picture in the next 3-4 days," the Minister said, adding that the vaccination drive would need additional nurses so the Department is going to recruit 1,000 nurses shortly.

Meanwhile, the Minister said that the 300-bedded COVID-19 hospital being built by the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) at Sarusajai would be inaugurated on June 10, marking the completion of a month in the office of the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led BJP government in the State.

"The hospital will have 100 ICU beds and 200 oxygen beds. This hospital will act as an annexe of the GMCH (Gauhati Medical College and Hospital). Doctors, nurses and other staffers of the GMCH would also be working at this new Covid hospital at Sarusajai," Mahanta said.

According to the Minister, Rs 22 crore has been spent in the hospital being constructed by the DRDO.
