Inquiry Committee Setup to Probe Irregularities in Dibrugarh University: Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi has constituted a high-level inquiry committee to probe the irregularities allegedly indulged in by Prof. Ranjit Kumar Tamuli, Vice Chancellor (since suspended) of Dibrugarh University. The Governor is also the Chancellor of Tezpur University.
The three-member inquiry committee will be headed by former Judge of Gauhati High Court Dr Indira Shah as its Chairperson.
Prof. M.P. Bezbaruah, Department of Economics, Gauhati University is its Member Secretary; and Dilip Kumar Dutta, Senior Accounts Officer (retd) of the Office of Principal Accountant General, Assam is member of the committee.
The panel will inquire into financial transactions and financial administration, allegations of corruption, indiscipline, misuse of funds and also allegation of misuse of powers of the University during the last five years.
It shall also focus on the complaints received by the Governor from the Dibrugarh University Teachers' Association, Dibrugarh University Officers' Association, Dibrugarh University Employees' Association and Lahowal MLA, besides the report of the two-member 'Fact-Finding Committee' constituted in this regard.
The Governor is also of the view that all aspects of management of Dibrugarh University — especially financial matters spanning the last five years — need to be brought within the purview of the probe.
Consequent upon the allegations of several public representatives and organisations on the alleged financial irregularities, the Governor also sought report from Prof. Ranjit Tamuli. Thereafter, based on the report submitted by the Prof. Tamuli, a 'Fact-Finding Committee' was constituted by the Chancellor.
It may be noted that based on the report from the 'Fact-Finding Committee' against the Vice Chancellor of Dibrugarh University, Prof. Ranjit Kumar Tamuli, the Governor-cum-Chancellor of Dibrugarh University placed him under suspension and temporarily placed the senior-most professor of Dibrugarh University, Prof. R.N.S. Yadav as the Vice Chancellor of the varsity.
It may also be noted that after detailed perusal of the report submitted by the 'Fact-Finding Committee' and on consideration of the facts and materials available on record, the Governor has found prime facie case warranting a detailed inquiry to be conducted by a high-level inquiry committee, stated a release from the Raj Bhawan.
