GUWAHATI: Taking part at a function that witnessed the inking of MoUs amounting to Rs. 3,114 crore today, Chief Minister Himanta said that Assam is a safe destination for industrial investment. He said that the State Government signed MoUs amounting to around Rs 8,000 crore, and the proposals for the signing of MoUs amounting to Rs. 10,000 crore are under process.

The State Government signed seven MoUs: six for the setting up of industrial units like petrochemicals, infrastructure, cement, bakery, food products, etc., and one for the establishment of a five-star hotel near Kaziranga by the Hayat group of hotels.

The Chief Minister said, "Soon after getting the proposal for an industrial unit, the State Government does everything for the unit until it starts production. Many of the MoUs signed in May this year have already started their activities. We hope to get private investment amounting to Rs 50,000 crore in the state in the coming two years. Apart from private parties, public sector units have already invested around Rs 75,000 crore in the state."

He said, "We have adopted an investor-friendly policy that has stopped the age-old practice of potential investors running from department-to-department for necessary clearances. We have a state-level empowered committee comprising senior secretaries to go through investment proposals and send them to the Cabinet. Soon after approval from the Cabinet, we invite the investors concerned to sign MoUs with us. We give the go-ahead signal to such investors without going through their documents in detail. When such investors come for the renewal of their licences, we check their documents in detail."

The Chief Minister said, "The people of Assam want the development of the state. The social atmosphere in the state has changed a lot. The outcome is such that investors approach me wherever I go. They want to invest in the state."
