GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his Meghalaya counterpart Conrad K Sangma stressed an amicable solution to the boundary disputes between the two states as early as possible.

The two chief ministers met in Guwahati today in the presence of the chairmen of the three regional committees of each of the two states. In their meeting last year, the two chief ministers decided to form the regional committees – three for each of the two states – to visit the disputed stretches and take opinions of the fringe dwellers.

The regional committees did their assigned task – visited the six disputed stretches and took opinions of the border dwellers. The regional committees briefed the two chief ministers on the findings during their visits to the disputed areas.

Talking to The Sentinel after the meeting, Border Protection and Development Minister Atul Bora said, "We have long-standing boundary issues with the neighbouring states. After coming at the helm of affairs, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has been trying to resolve the boundary issues with the neighbouring states. We have held discussions with many of the neighbouring states. We have held several rounds of talks with Meghalaya, and more such talks are on the cards."
