GUWAHATI: There is no let-up in the flood situation in the state today, with the Brahmaputra still flowing above the danger level at three places: Dhubri, Tezpur, and Nematighat. The Dokhow River is also flowing above the danger level in Sivasagar.
The deluge is still affecting 28 revenue circles in 13 districts: Biswanath, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Morigaon, Nagaon, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, and Tamulpur. As many as 98,840 people—44,838 males, 35,722 females, and 18,280 children—are affected in 371 villages. The state still has 17 relief camps operational with 2,941 inmates.
Reports of damage to roads, bridges, dykes, etc. keep coming in from various districts, besides the reports of erosion from eight districts. The deluge also submerged some areas in Kaziranga National Park. Flood waters submerged the national highway near Dhemaji.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister twitted, “Every year, we receive water from Bhutan, Arunachal Pradesh, and even from China. We face floods with brave hearts. We experience pain and misery beyond human imagination, yet we do not blame others. We know that nature does not recognise geography. #delhiflood.”
