Assam Police arrested 3,162 persons under NDPS Act against 1,846 cases in 8 months

GUWAHATI: In around eight months from May 10 to December 26, 2021, the Assam Police arrested 3,162 persons against 1,846 cases registered under the NDPS (Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act, 1985.

The police also recovered drugs and other banned substances worth around Rs 342.77 crore. The seized substances are – 55.595 kg heroin; 13044.30787 kg ganja; 40.05075 kg opium; 1,36,679 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup; 27,94,184 pieces of tablets/capsules; 3.5601 kg morphine; 3,314 kg poppy straw; 3.375 kg crystal Methamphetamine; 0.29261 kg cocaine and 213.935 kg cannabis plant. They also seized 165 vehicles during the drive.

Besides these, the police also recovered Rs 2,23,35,278, FICN with a face value of Rs 36,800, besides foreign currencies. The police destroyed over 31 bighas cannabis-cultivated areas during the period.
