Assam Police indispensable for society: CS Paban Kumar Borthakur

GUWAHATI: The Assam Police observed the 72nd Assam Police Day today at the 4th Assam Police Battalion (APBn) at Kahilipara in Guwahati. Chief Secretary Paban Kumar Borthakur attended the programme as the chief guest, and Principal Secretary Niraj Verma was the guest of honour.

The all-woman band of the Assam Police launched the programme.

The Chief Secretary said, "Assam Police is an indispensable part of Assamese society. Many police personnel had to sacrifice their lives for the safety and security of the people of the state. Assam Police is considered one of the strongest forces in the country. The women in the Assam Police are making strides on all fronts, including their empowerment. The women band of the state police – Suranjana – will make the state police force proud."

DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said, "The State Government took measures to strengthen the state police force and to make them people-friendly. Over 14,000 youths got appointments in the Assam Police in various ranks. He said that the Assam Police women's band – Suranjana – is the first of its kind in the country. Under the aegis of the Chief Minister, we have taken measures to make the state police force technologically advanced."
