GUWAHATI: Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria said that the Assam Police is a symbol of remarkable bravery and unwavering discipline. This force has not only played a pivotal role in maintaining law and order but has also effectively quelled insurgencies across the state, he said while speaking at the Police Commemoration Day' Parade at the 4th Assam Police Battalion in Kahilipara in Guwahati today.
Kataria also underlined the need for police officers to be available to interact with the public to streamline grievance redressal and ensure the welfare of the public.
The governor said that the Assam Police has been a symbol of dutifulness and effectiveness and has contributed significantly to the maintenance of law and order and protecting the lives and property of the people. He also said that the Assam Police has also played a great role in controlling insurgencies. Due to the hard work and persistence of the Assam Police, many rebel organisations have laid down their arms and joined the mainstream.
The governor said that he had visited all the districts of the state and observed that Assam is largely peaceful in terms of law and order. "We feel safe because of the vigilance and efficiency of the Assam Police. Assam Police has been setting an example of commitment, dedication, and service to the people of the state," he said.
He highlighted that infrastructure is the backbone of any organization and Assam Police is experiencing infrastructural development under the 'MOITRI' mission. Moreover, the government is continuously working to enhance operational competence, provide soft skills training, and introduce science and technology solutions to deal with the manifestations of cybercrime.
The Governor also lauded the Assam Police for achieving significant progress in the campaign against drugs, where a huge cache of contraband drugs worth more than Rs 1700 crore has been seized and 7053 cases have been registered under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
