Assam Police ready to foil Al Qaeda terror plots in State

The Assam Police are now ready to thwart various terror plots like serial blasts of the ISI (Inter-Services Intelligence) and the Al Qaeda in Assam.

GUWAHATI: The Assam Police are now ready to thwart various terror plots like serial blasts of the ISI (Inter-Services Intelligence) and the Al Qaeda in Assam. The State Police have already activated its agencies following inputs on the likely terror plots.

According to the intelligence input with the state police, the ISI has called for a 'Jihad' in Assam after three persons were killed in police firing during an eviction drive at Gorukhuti in Darrang District on September 23.

Meanwhile, the Assam Police HQs have directed the security forces to take the necessary preventive and precautionary measures and thwart such evil designs of global terror outfits and fundamental/ radical elements across the State.

The SPs have been also directed to develop ground sources and intelligence connection machinery and brief all the officers and men including the security forces under their jurisdiction.

Dhubri SP Gaurav Abhijit Dilip told The Sentinel, "We are maintaining strict vigil on the border areas as the district is located along the border with Bangladesh."

According to sources, the Darrang SP has also held a meeting with the Army and intelligence agencies after receiving the alert message from Assam Police headquarters.

The Sentinel had earlier reported that the Assistant Inspector General of Police (Law & Order) in a message to the SPs (Superintendents of Police of the State, said that the ISI-sponsored 'Al Qaeda' has released a video message where it called for 'Jihad' especially in Assam and Kashmir.

"Al Qaeda (AQIS)'s 'As Sahab' released a propaganda video entitled 'Do not sit idly grieving' and showed videos on alleged lynching of Indian Muslim, including some videos from Assam and called for 'Jihad' in Assam and Kashmir," stated the message.

According to the input, the ISI is planning to target RSS cadres and Army personnel in Assam and other places in the country.

There are threats from global terror outfits to indulge in spectacular actions by resorting to explosion of bombs in places of mass gathering, mass transport and religious places," added the message from Assam Police HQs.

The general secretary of OIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperation) has also released a statement regarding the Dhalpur eviction drive condemning the systematic persecution and violence ramped up against the Muslim community in Assam.
