GUWAHATI: The loss-making APDCL (Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd) made Rs 300-crore profit in fiscal 2021-22. The company suffered a Rs 292-crore loss in fiscal 2020-21.

Talking to The Sentinel, an APDCL official said, "APDCL registered eight per cent increase in efficiency in timely preparation of electricity bills, leading to increase in revenue collection. Electricity revenue collection increased from June 2021 till March 2022, leading to the collection of Rs 6,054 crore, including Rs 162.28 crore collected from nine State Government departments. It also collected Rs 519-crore arrears during this period."

The official said, "APDCL collected Rs 595.83 crore against the current demand of Rs 551.07 crore in May 2022, registering a collection efficiency of 108 per cent. Revenue collection, however, dipped to Rs 443.49 crore against the current demand of Rs 501.32 crore in April 2022 due to inclement weather. The revenue collection efficiency was 88 per cent in that month. The revenue collection in April 2021 was Rs 343.98 crore against the current demand of Rs 463.55 crore. The collection efficiency in that month was 74 per cent. The highest revenue collection by APDCL in 2021-22 was in July. It collected Rs 682.25 crore against the current demand of Rs 535.81 crore. The revenue collection efficiency in that month was 127 per cent."

According to the official, APDCL collected Rs 441.78 crore in January, Rs 462.58 crore in February and Rs 518.28 crore in March 2022. The revenue collection efficiencies in these three months were 99 per cent in January, 106 per cent in February and 123 per cent in March.
