GUWAHATI: The APSC (Assam Public Service Commission) will install jammers to block mobiles and also go for video recording of the sessions in its examination centres. These moves — in the line of UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) — aim at bringing about transparency and also efficient management of the examinations to be held by the Commission from this month onwards.

Sources informed that the APSC will conduct eight examinations in 16 centres in Guwahati on separate dates from October 11 this year. These include the ones to recruit junior and assistant engineers for the PWD, Child Development Project officers for the Social Welfare Department, and lecturers for the polytechnics in Assam.

To ensure smooth conduct of these examinations, the APSC has been having several meetings with the officials of the district administration, Police, GMC (Guwahati Municipal Corporation), Health, and the APDCL (Assam Power Distribution Company Limited) as well as with the personnel in-charge of the 16 examination centres.

Talking to The Sentinel, APSC Chairman Pallab Bhattacharyya said, "The APSC will select the candidates purely on the basis of their merit. To ensure transparency, we've decided for the first time to use mobile jammers in the examination halls. Video recordings will help us in maintaining footages of the examination sessions. We've also sought logistics support from a number of departments for smooth conduct of examinations. The APSC has specifically asked the APDCL to ensure that there are no power cuts during the examination hours in the areas where the examination centres are located."

He added, "The examination halls will be sanitized and all COVID-19 protocols will be maintained."
