GUWAHATI: The APSC (Assam Public Service Commission) will hold the next CCE (Combined Competitive Examination) under amended rules.

The State Government amended the Assam Public Services Combined Competitive Examination Rules in 2019. And the government is ready to amend the rules again to ensure local candidates hold the vacant ACS (Assam Civil Service), APS (Assam Police Service) and allied cadre posts in the state.

According to sources in the Personnel Department of the State Government, the proposed amendment is under drafting to amend the Assam Public Services Combined Competitive Examination Rules (amended in 2019). According to sources, the amendment will make only local candidates eligible for public services under the APSC through compulsory registration of their names in employment exchanges. To register his name in the local employment exchange, a candidate has to produce his Aadhaar card that spells out his identity and address. Such a clause in the Rules will prevent candidates hailing from other states from applying for such posts.

The Assam Public Services Combined Competitive Examination Rules, 2019, has a clause that makes qualifying for an optional paper compulsory for all candidates. According to sources, the government will do away with this clause.

According to sources, the State Government has already written a letter to the APSC to hold the next CCE to fill up around 800 vacant ACS, APS and allied posts.
