GUWAHATI: Interestingly enough, only four GBs (Gaon Burahs) have been serving Dhemaji District till date. Considering the gravity of the situation, the Revenue & Disaster Management Department has sanctioned 115 posts of GBs in the district. Already Chief Minister Himants Biswa Sarma has accorded approval to this move.
Talking to The Sentinel, Revenue & Disaster Management Minister Jogen Mohan said, "For the last two decades, these 115 Gaon Burahs have been rendering their services without any remuneration from the government's side. They were facing immense problems while carrying out their duties.
"Considering the significant roles of GBs at the ground level, the government has sanctioned their posts. The Dhemaji Deputy Commissioner will soon appoint them. Each of the GBs will enjoy a monthly remuneration of Rs 9,000. "
