GUWAHATI: All this while there was no digital attendance system in the Assam Secretariat. During the rule of the Congress government, a biometric attendance system was introduced in some blocks of the Secretariat. However, the biometric machines stopped functioning and the attendance of the employees continued to be recorded manually.

Some employees allegedly take advantage of the manual time and attendance system. But not anymore. Soon the biometric attendance system will be introduced in the Assam Secretariat to record the real-time attendance of the employees. According to General Administrative Department (GAD) sources, an order has been placed for biometric attendance machines and 40 such machines will be installed in different blocks of the Assam Secretariat. This will help to keep track of the check-in and check-out time of the employees. It is expected that the machines will be installed by the end of July or early part of August. These biometric machines will have a facial recognition system.

Sources further said that the real-time monitoring of the attendance of the employees will improve the work culture in the Secretariat. Sources added that compared to the past, the efficiency and punctuality of employees have improved in recent years with the appointment of young employees. The introduction of the biometric attendance system is expected to further improve the work culture.
