Assam: Silpi Divas awards presented to D N Bezbarua and others

Tezpur: The three national-level awards for 2023—the Lokopriya Gopinath Bardoloi National Unity Award was conferred to veteran journalist Dhirendra Nath Chakraborty, the Krishnakanta Handique Award to eminent scholar and researcher Dr Pradipjyoti Mahanta, and the Sukapha Award to eminent journalist and writer D. N. Bezbarua—on Silpi Divas today.

Bezbarua and  Chakra-borty were not present at the event in Tezpur.

The event was centrally observed at Tezpur in Sonitpur district today under the aegis of the State Directorate of Cultural Affairs in association with the Sonitpur district administration.

Taking part as the chief guest in the meeting held at Collegiate Field, Cultural Affairs Minister Bimal Bora highlighted the contributions of Rupkonwar Jyotiprasad Agarwala towards the greater Assamese culture, enriched the state culture with unique creations, and called upon the huge gathering to follow in the footsteps of the great personalities.

The four state-level awards conferred to actress Chetna Das, the Dr. Birendra Kumar Bhattacharya Award to journalist Prashant Barua, the Sati Radhika Award to social worker Dr. Malti Barua, and the Shilpi Sainik Brajnath Sharma Award to folk artist Jagadish Barman. The 60 artists who have made outstanding contributions to the arts and crafts sector of Assam were awarded artist pensions; 151 artists were awarded the Annual Artist Award; 10 artists with disabilities were awarded one-time assistance; and 10 families of deceased artists were awarded one-time assistance.

 Ministers Ashok Singhal, Tezpur MP Pallav Lochan Das, renowned writer Dr Swadhinata Mahanta, famous actress Chetana Das, and other dignitaries and awardees were present on the occasion. Tezpur MLA Prithiraj Rava delivered the welcome address.
