GUWAHATI: In a first, on behalf of the State Government the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has identified as many as 4,204 relief camps across Assam in advance to address any flood-related eventuality.

Some of the districts with the maximum number of such camps are Kamrup topping the tally with 433 pre-identified camps, Lakhimpur with 260 camps, Barpeta-293 camps, Bongaigaon-253 and Kokrajhar-239 camps.

Relief Camps across Assam

An awareness and capacity building initiative will be undertaken by the Pratirodhi Mitras and Aapda Mitras or volunteers to educate people about COVID-19 as well as the flood situation.

The relief camps would for the first time have child-friendly spaces. These would be set up "in every camp in coordination with line departments and NGOs / civil society organisations" following all COVID -19 protocols and safety and security of the children, the Relief Camp Management Guidelines said.

The guidelines that have already been shared with the Deputy Commissioners also talk of setting up an e-Help desk in every operational relief camp with the help of the Pratirodhi Mitras, preparing SOP for distribution of relief items and cooked food and green fodder for livestock, among others.

Every camp relief camp will have medical support and a health surveillance team. They will monitor the health condition of the camp inmates daily, instead of week monitoring earlier. In the event of detection of any COVID-19 positive person, he or she will be isolated immediately.
