DIBRUGARH: Staffs, employees, tea labourers and other people directly or indirectly associated with the Assam Tea Company India Limited (ATCIL) have heaved a sigh of relief when its Director Sanjay Jain said that the ATCIL management is committed towards the welfare of its employees and workers, and also assured to pay the wages and other due facilities of the workers, staffs and labourers. Jain gave this assurance to a delegation of the Asom Gana Parishad Tea Cell (AGPTC), when it met Jain and other senior officials of the company's at the company's registered office in the Greenwood Tea Estate here on Thursday.

The delegation expressed its concern over the fate of more than 2,60,000 workers engaged in the 16 ATCIL Tea Estates across different districts of Upper Assam, following reports in a section of the media for the last couple of days that financial irregularities had occurred in ATCIL owner BR Shetty's Middle East-based company.

Meanwhile while rebuffing all such reports, ATCIL Director Jain told AGPTC that the tea companies of the State have already set a target of 1 crore 10 lakh tea production in the current financial year; and hence there is no reason to worry for the welfare of tea workers and labourers.

"The company's head office will be shifted to Dibrugarh as soon as the undergoing construction work of the building is completed', Jain informed the delegates.
