GUWAHATI: The State Government has restricted its 3 percent OBC quota for Tea Tribes and Adivasis to grades III and IV posts only with immediate effect, not for all categories of posts as notified earlier.

Earlier, the decision was to reserve 3 percent of all government jobs for the Tea Tribes and Adivasis within the 27 percent quota reserved for OBC and MOBC communities in the state.

The earlier The Personnel B Department issued a notification reserving 3 percent of government jobs for the Tea Tribes and Adivasis following a cabinet decision to ensure adequate representation of these two tea communities in state government jobs, according to the order.

With the 3 percent reservation for the two tea communities and the reservation of grades III and IV posts in the state government and PSUs (public sector undertakings), the quota for the other OBC and MOBC communities will be 24 percent.

Moreover, it is stipulated that if candidates from the Tea Tribes and Adivasis are not available for certain reserved vacant posts, the vacancies would not be carried forward to the next year, but candidates from other OBC and MOBC communities would be appointed to these posts. However, the appointing authority shall take steps to maintain a 3 percent reservation for Tea Tribes and Adivasis in subsequent years through available future vacancies.
