GUWAHATI: Newly-elected president of Axam Xahitya Xabha (AXX) Kuladhar Saikia has asserted to bring about changes in the functioning of the literary body for the greater interest of the State.

Saikia told The Sentinel on Saturday that the AXX which is a more than a century-old organization, would have to adapt to the changing scenario and challenges of the literary world. All stakeholders of the AXX will be taken into confidence before taking any initiative, he said.

Emphasizing on the inclusive role that could be played by the AXX for the greater interest of Assam, Saikia said the apex literary body could become a broad-based platform to build bridges between various ethnic groups. He said the AXX has to keep the essential ethos of greater Assamese society intact.

“The AXX has to keep in mind that the young generation now identify themselves more with Internet literature and online journals. We should be able to recognize them as valuable contributors in our literature. The digital world has to be tapped for the benefit and development of the Assamese language and promote a new school of thought and creativity,” Saikia, former DGP and eminent writer said.

Saikia said the AXX would make an endeavour to reach out to the young generation of writers and literary enthusiasts who need to be given avenues to make the Assamese language and culture rich.

“A well-documented history of Assamese language has to be produced to apprise the present generation about the glorious history of the language,” Saikia. He said the AXX will have to take up various activities to create an atmosphere in the State where one can feel self-pride in speaking and writing in Assamese language.

On other hand, the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) while extending its greetings to the newly elected president and other office-bearers of the AXX, has urged the literary body to steer clear of the political influence to keep intact its prestigious position in the Assamese society.
