GUWAHATI: The BMI (Body Mass Index) recording of the Assam Police personnel will start on August 16 this year in as many as 36 locations in the state.

The State DGP said on social media that there were “another 45 days to go. The recording of BMI would be carried out at 36 locations in the state for all serving police personnel starting August 16th, 2023.”

On May 16 this year, the DGP said, “In line with directions of the Hon’ble CMO, Assam, Assam Police Headquarters has decided to go in for professional recording of the body mass index of all Assam Police personnel, including IPS and APS officers and all DEF, Bn, and organisations. We plan to give three months time to all Assam Police personnel, including IPS and APS officers, until August 15th and then start BMI assessment in the next fifteen days. All those who are in the obese (BMI 30+) category would be offered another three months to reduce weight (till November end) and after that, the VRS option, except those who have genuine medical grounds like thyroidism, etc. The DGP, Assam Police, would be the first to have the BMI taken on August 16.”
