GUWAHATI: After the Assam-Mizoram border incident, the State government is working simultaneously on three different fronts – thorough checking of all vehicles entering Assam from Mizoram; Dhalai police investigating the case of the border incident, besides sending a notice each to the Kolasib DC, SP and the SDPO; and an Assam Police team searching for the Mizoram Rajya Sabha MP in Delhi. The MP made provocative statements soon after the border incident.
The Home Department has instructed the police to check every vehicle entering Assam from Mizoram and allow them only if they are satisfied. The order from the Home Department said that during the two-month drive it had come to light that the bulk of drug consignments entered Assam via Mizoram. It is a cause of concern and threat to society in Assam, the order said.
According to Special DGP GP Singh, the anti-drug drive by the Assam Police has put a section of people in Mizoram in troubled waters. That section of people has triggered boundary tension between the two states to divert the attention of the Assam Police from the transportation of drugs, Singh suspects.
Drugs come from outside India through some northeastern states. The Special DGP feels that 'had these states been thorough in checking drugs, such consignments would not have entered Assam and gone to rest of India'.
According to police sources, Dhalai police are investigating the case relating to the boundary firing. They are taking eyewitness accounts. They have also sent a notice each to Mizoram's Kolasib DC, SP and SDPO in connection with the border firing.
A team of the State Police is searching for the Mizoram MP who made inflammatory statements soon after the killing of Assam Police personnel in firing from the Mizoram side on the inter-state border. The state police team also moved the Mizoram House in Delhi and requested the authority there to inform them if they know the whereabouts of the MP. The team of police will also meet the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha on this issue. The police team is yet to locate the whereabouts of the MP.
