BTC Poll Campaign: Expenditure limit fixed at Rs 7 lakh

The Assam State Election Commission has fixed the maximum limit of campaign expenditure by any candidate at Rs 7 lakh for the two-phase polls in BTC (Bodo Territorial Council).

GUWAHATI: The Assam State Election Commission has fixed the maximum limit of campaign expenditure by any candidate at Rs 7 lakh for the two-phase polls in BTC (Bodo Territorial Council). Talking to The Sentinel, Commission Secretary Pranjit Gogoi said, "The 'Expenditure Observers' will be monitoring the process in the run-up to the polls. Already nine such officials are at work.

"Besides, nine more officials have been appointed as 'General Observers'. They will monitor the overall election process in the four districts of the BTR (Bodoland Territorial Region)."

The BTR administered by the BTC has four districts — Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, and Udalguri. The BTR came under the Governor's Rule on April 27, 2020.

Altogether 241 candidates are in the poll fray across 40 constituencies. A total of 23,82, 036 voters are expected to exercise their right to franchise in 3,146 polling stations. Of the total electorates, while the male voters are 12, 03, 008; female voters are 11,79, 020; besides eight 'Third Gender' voters.

The polling on ballot papers will be held from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm on both the days – December 7 and 10. Counting of votes will start from 8 am on December 12, 2020.
