GUWAHATI: The Justice (retd) Biplab Kumar Sharma Commission served a notice to former APSC (Assam Public Service Commission) Principal Controller of Examinations Bharat Bushan Dev Choudhury in connection with the inquiry into the anomalies in the CCE (Combined Competitive Examination)-2014. The judicial commission asked Dev Choudhury to respond to the notice within 15 days.
The State Government elevated Bharat Bushan Dev Choudhury as APSC Chairman recently. The Governor administered the oath of office to Dev Choudhury on September 3, 2022.
Dev Choudhury was APSC's Principal Controller of Examination for a period when the CCE-14 took place. According to rules, one of the two keys of APSC's strong room remains with the Principal Controller of Examinations and the other with the Chairman. The judicial commission needs Dev Choudhury's statement as the investigation into the CCE-2014 led to the arrest of several ACS and allied cadre officers, leading to their dismissal from service. The judicial commission has also served notice to all former APSC members involved in the selection process of the CCE-2014.
The CCE-2014 selected 180 ACS and allied cadre officers. The APSC declared the results of that examination in 2016.
The Justice (retd) Biplab Kumar Sharma Commission also probed the anomalies in the CCE-2013. During its investigation, the judicial commission detected anomalies in the selection of 34 more candidates who the Dibrugarh Police had not indicted in its investigation into the cash-for-job scam.
