CCE 2014: Judicial panel seeks more time to complete probe

GUWAHATI: The Justice Biplab Kumar Sharma Commission has sought more time from the state government to complete its inquiry into the Combined Competitive Examination (CCE) 2014 conducted by the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC).

The commission has informed the government that it still harbours doubts regarding the role of some of the then office-bearers of the APSC in conducting CCE 2014 and needs to serve some more notices to achieve clarity in this regard, As such, the commission has sought six months' additional time or time till the inquiry is completed, whichever is earlier.

The term of the one-man judicial inquiry commission headed by Justice Biplab Kumar Sharma, retired Judge of Gauhati High Court, will expire on November 20 next. The inquiry commission was set up by the government to ascertain whether there were any anomalies or misconduct in conducting of CCE 2014.

So far, the commission has issued notices to several then members and officials of the APSC. These persons include, among others, the then Principal Controller of Examinations, Nanda Babu Singh, along with then members Anup Kumar Roy, Nasifa Ahmed, Ranjit Borthakur, Basanta Doley and Samedur Rahman.

According to sources, the commission is not satisfied with the responses received from some of these persons and it wants more clarifications from them.

The Justice (Retd) Biplab Kumar Sharma Commission also probed the anomalies in the CCE-2013. During its investigation, the judicial commission detected anomalies in the selection of 34 more candidates who the Dibrugarh Police had not indicted in its investigation into the cash-for-job scam.
