Central team takes stock of 'Catch The Rain' initiative in Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: A two-member team from the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti visited Lakhimpur on Saturday to take stock of the Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch The Rain 2022 initiative.

The team comprised Pranjal Chandra, Director of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Central Nodal Officer of Jal Shakti Abhiyan programme, and Dr K Radhapyari, scientist, Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) & Technical Officer, North East Region, Guwahati.

While interacting with the media, Pranjal Chandra and Dr Radhapyari lauded the initiative adopted and implemented by the Lakhimpur district administration regarding Jal Shakti Abhiyan with public participation. They expressed optimism regarding the campaign achieving massive success in future. They appealed to the public to save water, conserve water for the upcoming generation against the backdrop of the hazard caused by global warming.

On the other hand, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Lakhimpur Zila Parishad Tripurendra Pator informed that the Lakhimpur district has proposed to set up 93 Amrit Sarovars across the district. "Already venues for 74 Amrit Sarovars have been selected, while venue selection process is under way for the remaining 19 Amrit Sarovars. The district administration will set up a unique Amrit Sarovar at Loridonga Dongibeel under Karunabari Development Blcok covering almost 200 bighas of land. The Amrit Sarovar will be bigger than the historic Joy Sagar Tank of Sivasagar district," Pator added.

The Central team held a meeting with the Block Development Officers (BDOs) and officials of the line departments in the conference hall of the Circuit House. The team also conducted field visits to different locations of the district and held a brief awareness meeting on the Jal Shakti Abhiyan campaign with the teachers and local people. The BDOs of the district, officers and officials of line departments assisted the Central Ministry team while conducting the field visits.

The Ministry of Jal Shakti had taken up this nationwide campaign 'Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain' (JSA: CTR) focusing on saving and conserving rainwater with the theme 'Catch the rain, where it falls, when it falls' from March 29, 2022 to November 30 this year in the pre-monsoon and monsoon periods of the current year, covering both urban and rural areas of all the districts in the country.
