Chief Minister' Special Vigilance Cell filed charge sheet against Rounak Ali Hazarika

The Chief Minister’ Special Vigilance Cell (SVC) on Monday filed charge sheet against Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Rounak Ali Hazarika where it is mentioned that his assets are disproportionate to his income by around 182 per cent.

GUWAHATI: The Chief Minister' Special Vigilance Cell (SVC) on Monday filed charge sheet against Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Rounak Ali Hazarika where it is mentioned that his assets are disproportionate to his income by around 182 per cent. Besides Rounak Ali Hazarika, Farid Ali and Nusrat Ali Hazarkia have also been named in the charge sheet.

After getting information that Rounak Ali had amassed wealth and property disproportionate to his known sources of income, the CM's SVC started inquiry against him. On October 5, 2021, the SVC registered a case against Rounak Ali and during the investigation, it was found that he had property in Dhirenpara and Down Town area of Guwahati. Besides, there is also a resort in Shimla in his wife's name.

According to police sources, Rounak Ali possessed immovable and movable assets disproportionate to his known sources of income from 1991 to 2021. After getting approval from the Chief Minister, the CM's SVC started an investigation against him under the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. On completion of the investigation, it was found that Rounak Ali had amassed immovable and movable assets which are disproportionate to his known sources of income by 182.19 per cent. The prosecution sanctions have been accorded and received from the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The investigating team completed the investigation within a short period of 109 days. The final supplementary charge sheet of 156 pages was submitted on Monday vide charge sheet number 1/2022.
