GUWAHATI: Come 2023, classes XI and XII will be history in the state colleges. These two classes will be only in higher secondary schools.
State Education Minister Dr Ranuj Pegu said, "The education system will witness a massive overhaul under the New Education Policy, 2020. Classes XI and XII will get abolished in colleges that will be only for degree classes.
"Classes XI and XII will be only in higher secondary schools. For this, the existing higher secondary schools will get a boost in their infrastructure. We will also upgrade some of the high schools to higher secondary schools.
"Higher secondary schools will have courses of all streams – Science, Arts, Commerce and Vocational. The government has already started the development of infrastructure in higher secondary schools and the recruitment of more teachers. For this, we have already published advertisements.
"Each of the higher secondary schools attaining 75 years or more will get Rs 3 crore for the development of their infrastructure. The other higher secondary schools will also get their infrastructure boosted in phases."
