CM Himanta Biswa Sarma speaks on NEP-2020 and agriculture at Niti Aayog meet

GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also attended the seventh meeting of the Governing Council of Niti Aayog addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi today. Chief Ministers of various states were present at the meeting.

Chief Minister Sarma spoke on what the State Government had done on the implementation of the National Education Policy-2020 and modernization of agriculture in the state at the Niti Aayog Governing Council meeting.

Talking to the media in New Delhi, the Chief Minister said, "The Niti Aayog meeting discussed ways to produce oil and pulses along with paddy to cut their import. The meeting also had a detailed discussion on NEP-2020 and urban governance. I spoke on NEP-2020 and modernization of agriculture in Assam at the meeting."

"Honoured to have joined Niti Aayog's 7th Governing Council Meeting Chaired by Hon PM Shri @narendramodi Ji, graced by Hon Cabinet Ministers and my esteemed Chief Ministers from many states at Rashtrapati Bhawan Cultural Centre.@PMOIndia @NITIAayog @CMOfficeAssam," Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted after the meeting.

When asked about the Assam bandh called by the ULFA-I on August 15, Sarma said, "I don't feel any untoward incident will occur. They boycott Independence Day every year. They have such a call this year also. They always have an issue. It is not right to debate with them. We hope that all of us celebrate Independence Day peacefully with pride."
