GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal reviewed the current COVID-19 situation in the State at a meeting with the Health department, Disaster Management, police and other officials concerned on Monday. The meeting was to prepare the action plan for tackling the pandemic.

Principal Secretary of Health Samir Kumar Sinha gave a power-point presentation on the prevailing situation and steps taken so far to contain the spread of the virus in the State.

The Chief Minister was apprised that while the number of hospital beds in every district have been increased in anticipation of rising cases, Remdesivir medicine, oxygen cylinders etc., have been stocked adequately. ASDMA CEO G.D. Tripathi also informed the Chief Minister about steps taken by the department to manage the situation. He also highlighted the need to impose restrictions in the districts where the number of cases has risen to more than hundred to prevent mass gatherings.

Sonowal directed the Chief Secretary to prepare each district to fight the pandemic while instructing the DGP to strictly maintain COVID-19 protocols and prevent mass gatherings. He also laid stress on making the people aware about wearing masks, maintaining cleanliness and asked the departments concerned to ramp up COVID-19 tests at bus and truck terminuses.

Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was also present at the meeting and he instructed the Health department officials to start a helpline for various Cornavirus consultations and problems.

The key decisions taken in today's meeting would be made public by the Chief Secretary and the DGP on Tuesday, a press release said.
