GUWAHATI, Jan 17: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Borjhar here has predicted that the North East would experience a cold wave in the next few days.
An official at the RMC told The Sentinel on Sunday that while light snow is likely to fall at isolated places over the higher reaches of Arunachal Pradesh, light rain and thundershower will hit Assam and Meghalaya. He said dense to very dense fog is very likely to occur at isolated pockets over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
On Sunday, Guwahati recorded maximum temperature of 22.8 degree Celsius and minimum of 14 degree Celsius. The minimum temperature in the city on Sunday was 3 degree lesser than Saturday. The temperature in Guwahati will further fall to 12 degree Celsius on Monday. On the same day Shillong recorded maximum temperature of 15.5 degree Celsius and minimum of 5.1 degree Celsius.
The minimum temperature of 10.4 degree Celsius was recorded in Dibrugarh on Sunday followed by 13.6 in Tezpur, 12.3 in Silchar, 8.6 in Lakhimpur, 6.3 in Sohra, 7.2 in Lengpui, 4.6 in Kohima and 7.5 in Imphal.
Many parts of Guwahati were covered with fog till late morning hours on Sunday. Sunlight was almost missing in the city. Light wind has worsened the situation as Guwahati experienced one of the coldest days.
