Compulsory retirement for BDO of P&RD Khabiruddin Ahmed in Dhubri

GUWAHATI: The State Government today made a BDO (Block Development Officer) of the Panchayat and Rural Development (P&RD) to proceed on compulsory retirement with effect from September 27, 2023. The P&RD Principal Secretary issued an official notification to this effect.

According to the notification, Chapor BDO under Salkocha Development Block in the Dhubri district, Khabiruddin Ahmed, will proceed on compulsory retirement under the provisions of Rule 7 (v) of the Assam Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1964, and Rule 56 (b) of F.R. & S.R. The notification further said that Ahmed would be entitled to three months of salary and other allowances in advance as per the provisions of Rule 56(b) of the & S.R.

Speaking to The Sentinel, P&RD Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass said, “The BDO had many allegations regarding anomalies in the implementation of schemes, misuse of funds, etc. After an examination of all the allegations, the government has sent him to compulsory retirement. Such erring officers, when proved, will face similar action.”

The department instituted an inquiry into the allegations against Ahmed when he was the BDO of Gauripur Development Block in the Dhubri district, and the inquiry report recommended the departmental review committee impose a major penalty of compulsory retirement upon the erring BDO. On an earlier date, the Department had suspended him for irregularities in the implementation of MGNREGA.
