GUWAHATI: The vaccination drive for 12+ and 60+ without comorbidities will start in the state from today.
According to Director of Health Services (DHS) sources, the vaccination drive starting today for 12-15-year olds targets 13.46 lakh teens. It will start from schools. The department has a separate mechanism for school dropouts. Corbevax is the vaccination for this age group.
The department will also start the vaccination of 60+ without comorbidities from today. It targets 28.88 lakh people, sources said. The gap between the second dose and the booster dose is nine months. The vaccination of the third dose for frontline workers and 60+ people with comorbidities started on January 10, 2022. 2.76 lakh people got the dose so far in this drive.
The drive for the age group of 15-17 years began on January 3, 2022. 20.38 lakh vaccine doses were inoculated in this drive so far.
Sources further said that around 35 lakh people are yet to take the second dose in the state. Maximum of these people are from remote and hilly terrains. The department cannot deploy adequate staff in such areas as several vaccination drives are going on in the state simultaneously.
