GUWAHATI: The State Health department exceeded its daily vaccination target of three lakh on the third day when over 3.46 lakh people were inoculated.

According to official sources, 2,184 vaccination centres were operational in the State on Wednesday.

Even though the response from the public was massive, in some areas, especially in minority-dominated ones, people are still reluctant to take vaccines. With some minority organizations mobilizing awareness on the vaccination drive, people in such areas have started to come out to take the jab. However, the percentage of inoculation in such areas is less than in other areas.

According to official sources, the thrust has been laid on ensuring 100 per cent inoculation in the areas where people come out to take vaccination on their own.

According to official sources, the enthusiasm among the people for vaccination is so high that if the Centre cannot keep the inflow of adequate quantity of the vaccines problems may erupt in the drive. Official sources said, the vaccines are arriving in the State daily, and there are earlier stocks as well. There is no crisis of vaccines for the next two days.

"We're trying our best to keep the endeavour of the public for the vaccination intact," one of the sources said and added that it is difficult to control the rush at some centres.

The ministers are in the fields to bring about awareness among the people for taking the COVID-19 vaccines.

The highest vaccination was recorded in the Kamrup (M) district with the inoculation of over 23,000 people on Wednesday. It was followed by Sonitpur with the inoculation of over 22,000 people; Cachar with 18,000 and Nagoan with 16,000.

On the contrary, only 1,302 were inoculated in the West Karbi Anglong district, 1,455 in the Hojai district, 1,535 in the Dima Hasao district and 2,580 in the Majuli district.
