GUWAHATI: The daily Covid-19 positive cases in the state crossed the 800-mark on Thursday against 591 on Wednesday. The Covid-19 positivity rate in the state is 2.37 per cent against 1.72 per cent on Wednesday.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reviewed the Covid-19 situation at a meeting with all stakeholders today.
The Chief Minister said, "We need to take strict measures for the sake of life and livelihood. If we don't go with a check-and-balance approach, the daily-wage earners will be in troubled waters.
"We will watch the daily upsurge in Covid-19 cases till January 12. If daily Covid-19 cases touch the 2,000-mark by then, we will have to take stringent steps like extending the duration of night curfew, controlling mass gatherings, stricter norms for mask-wearing and social distancing, etc.
"We have opened schools. We will have to think afresh for schools. Since we have started the vaccination drive for 15-18-year-old teens, we don't have much problem with this age group. The problem is with the primary school students. Omicron is affecting children the most. We may shift to the online mode of classes in primary schools against."
