GUWAHATI: The State Government has approved various projects worth Rs 126 crore under SDRF (State Disaster Response Fund) allocations to restore public property damaged by floods and landslides in 2022.

The damage to public property like roads, embankments, irrigation projects, etc., was massive from floods and landslides in 2022.

According to guidelines from the Government of India, for any allocations under the SDRF, approval from the State Executive Committee (SEC) of the ASDMA (Assam State Disaster Management Authority) is a must. The SEC met on February 10 with the Chief Secretary in the chair.

After detailed discussions, the SEC approved 175 projects at a cost of Rs 117.43 crore for the State Water Resources Department, which received a body blow from floods in 2022. Apart from these projects, the department also got SEC approval for two additional projects: closing the breach of a panchayat bundh of the Suklai river at Nathkuchi in the Khoirabari area at a cost of Rs 2.99 crore and closing the breach of another panchayat bundh of the Suklai river at Tengajhar at a cost of Rs 2.99 crore.

The meeting also approved 161 PWD (R) projects at a cost of Rs 4.86 crore, 268 PHED (Public Health Engineering Department) projects at a cost of Rs 3.40 crore, and 68 irrigation projects at a cost of Rs 97 lakh.

Funds under the SDRF are meant for the repair of damage done during disasters. The funding pattern for SDRF between the Centre and the state governments is 90:10.

The departments need to submit proposals for projects to restore damaged public property to the ASDMA.
