Darrang green chilly exported to Bhutan

MANGALDAI: Following the first-ever journey of green vegetables namely Long Bean (Lechera), Teasle Gourd (Bhat Kerela) Indian Bean (Urohi), Bitter gourd (Tita Kerela) and Capsicum produced by the ideal organic farmers of the Darrang district to foreign countries like London and Dubai, now the turn of the Green Chilly produced by the farmers of Darrang to make its journey to Bhutan. Already the first consignment of three MT of green chilly reached Bhutan on April 15.

This initiative has been taken up by 'North East Farmers Support Arms' (NEFSA)- a local organic Farm Producer Company (FPC) located at Menapara near here.

"Our FPC was formed in 2019 with a total of six hundred thirty

shareholders and over two thousand primary members. Right now we are farming in around ninety bighas of land in remote areas, and we are trying to offer the adequate market value to the products of the member farmers with support from APART, the district Agriculture Department and the export marketing agency Iffco Kishan Sanchar Ltd," said Mahidul Islam, one of the Directors of the FPC. "We are also planning to export maize, brinjal and other vegetables in the coming days" Islam added.

Darrang Deputy Commissioner Pranab Kr Sarmah ceremonially flagged off the journey of the consignment on April 13 evening in the presence of District Agriculture Officer Jyotish Ch Nath and other officials.
