GUWAHATI: The State government has decided to abolish some of the posts that have become redundant in the present context with the launch of e-governance and create some new posts that have become necessary in the present context.

The Department of Personnel has issued an office memorandum to this effect. According to the office memorandum, the administrative departments will henceforth send the requisition of only essential vacant or new posts to the recruitment agencies like the Assam Public Service Commission, Recruitment Board, and Recruitment Commissions constituted for recommending eligible candidates.

Such a measure arises because, in the new age of administration and governance, the Government of Assam has given more impetus to processing official matters in a more scientific, systematic, and time-bound manner for efficient public service delivery. The introduction of the e-Office and other e-modes of administrative measures has made some posts non-essential in the departments due to their underutilization in the present context. Those non-essential vacant posts in the departments are required to be abolished regularly, and the departments will take the necessary steps for the abolition of the non-essential vacant posts in consultation with the Finance Department. Alternatively, new essential and need-based posts, if at all necessary, may be created by the Department in consultation with the Personnel Department and Finance Department. For this, the departments will undertake regular exercises to identify non-essential posts and examine any requirements for essential posts that need to be created.
