GUWAHATI: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) at Borjhar on Monday predicted that Assam would experience rainfall and thunderstorm in the next 48 hours. The rainfall might result in the decline of the day temperatures during the Durga Puja festival starting from Friday.

A scientist at RMC said that two low-pressure areas formed over the Bay of Bengal are causing the day temperatures to rise beyond the normal in many places in Assam and other NE States during October.

"The two weather systems have obliterated moisture incursion in the lower levels to the NE region from the Bay of Bengal. The situation is likely to change within a day or two. Some places in Assam and a few areas in Guwahati received slight rainfall on Sunday evening. We are expecting rainfall before the Durga puja," the scientist said.

The scientist predicted that Guwahati and adjoining areas will have generally cloudy sky with the possibility of thunder or lightning. The Maximum and the minimum temperatures are most likely to be 35°C and 24°C respectively on Tuesday.
