GUWAHATI: A team of the Election Commission of India (ECI) will hear on July 20 and 21 all stakeholders on the draft delimitation proposals of parliamentary and Assembly constituencies in Assam, prepared and published by it on June 20, 2023.

According to the draft proposals, the number of parliamentary and Assembly constituencies in Assam remained the same: 14 parliamentary and 126 Assembly. The constituencies have changes in their alignment and names, in certain cases, in the draft proposals.

According to sources in the State Election Department, the team of the Election Commission will hear the stakeholders separately during its two-day hearing. Some of the stakeholders have sent their responses to the draft proposals directly to the Election Commission, and some have submitted their responses to the State Election Department, which has also sent them to the Election Commission.

According to sources, the Election Commission is ready to complete the exercise by August this year so as to spare time for the special summary revision (SSR) for the preparation of the Photo Electoral Roll 2024. This Photo Electoral roll will be used in the 2024 parliamentary election.
