GUWAHATI: Health Minister Keshab Mahanta has instructed the Health officials to develop the district civil hospitals into designated hospitals for JE (Japanese Encephalitis) and malaria treatment in districts without medical colleges.

The minister said this at an emergency JE review meeting at NHM (National Health Mission) office. NHM and Health officials attended the meeting. The minister asked doctors and other hospital staff to remain alert. These designated hospitals will treat patients with suspected JE and malaria.

The meeting also reviewed the Covid-19 situation and vaccination status in the state. The minister also directed the officials to take measures to fight post-flood diseases.

Meanwhile, three persons – two of Karimganj and one of Sivasagar – died of JE today. With this, the JE toll in the state has risen to 16. The health fraternity detected six new JE cases in the state. The cumulative JE cases in the state are 121 today.
