BOKAJAN: In a major development, the Dillai police seized a huge consignment of ganja from a 10-wheeler truck along the Assam-Nagaland border here on Tuesday.
"Based on specific information, Sub Inspector Manujjal Gogoi along with his staff set up a mobile checkpoint along the Assam-Nagaland inter-State border and successfully recovered around 600 kg of ganja from a Guwahati-bound truck late Tuesday evening. The approximate face value of the seized cannabis is estimated to be around Rs 50 lakh in the black market," said Bokajan Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) John Das.
There has been a recent spike in smuggling of banned psychopathic drugs, including cannabis, into Assam through Karbi Anglong. Most of the drugs from the infamous golden triangle also enter Assam through Karbi Anglong. In the past couple of months, Karbi Anglong police have seized huge consignments of drugs ranging from brown sugar to heroin and other forms of psychotropic drugs worth several crores in the international black market.
