GUWAHATI: Dispur has asked the deputy commissioners (DCs) to submit details of xatra lands, including encroached land if any.
On behalf of the State Government, the Revenue and Disaster Management (R&DM) Department has written to the deputy commissioners of the districts to submit details of the landed property of xatras, including xatra land under encroachment. According to sources in the R&DM Department, since the State Government formed the Xatra Commission with MLA Pradip Hazarika as its chairman, the Commission will examine the DCs' Xatra land reports. The other two members of the Xatra Commission are MLAs Rupak Sarma and Mrinal Saikia.
On their part, the Xatra Commission has also requested the xatra authorities to submit xatra land details, including encroached land.
After the DCs and xatra authorities submit their reports, the Xatra Commission will tally the reports from the DCs and the Xatra authorities. It will also visit the xatras physically. The Xatra Commission has already visited the xatras in Barpeta, Nagaon and Morigaon districts.
