GUWAHATI: "The State Government is doing all for the indigenous people. The government is working keeping in mind that the political rights in the state remain with its indigenous people," IPR Minister Pijush Hazarika said at the third meeting of the sub-committee on Implementation of the Assam Accord.
The sub-committee had a meeting with All Assam Students' Union (AASU) leaders today.
Ministers Atul Bora and Jogen Mohan were also present at the meeting. The AASU side had its adviser Samujjal Bhattacharjya, president Dipanka Kumar Nath and others at the meeting. The meeting discussed Clause VI of the Accord in detail, including the measures taken by the government to implement the clause.
Hazarika said, "The AASU and the government have a few differences in implementing Clause VI of the Assam Accord. Barring the issues that have differences, the government can implement other aspects of the clause.
"To protect lands and the culture of xatras in the state, the government has formed a commission. The commission is taking details of xatras, their landed property, encroachment status etc."
